one things i miss from giving up osx is quicksilver. it’s definantly a hard application to describe, and it’s really powerful once you figure out how to use it. basically you hit a key combo that brings up the command window. then you then type something, anything: a filename or a program name hell even a random search term and it will present you with a list of options. at that point you can just hit enter and it will launch the program for you. there are tons of plugins available for quicksilver, and it also is quite theme-able even though the default theme looks great. check out the quicksilver overview for a MUCH better description for what quicksilver can do and also what it looks like.
i came across a askmefi post which suggested approcket as a good windows replacement. it’s not free like quicksilver but $9 is hardly breaking the bank if you choose to buy approcket after the free trial. also the quicksilver page recommends launchy as windows alternative. because i always try to use OSS (open source software) whenever available i think i’m gonna go give launchy a try. hopefully it lives up to the experience that quicksilver provides.
