i haven’t seen henry rollins in the new much lately. sploid did have an article on him the other day though. it seems he was reading a book that someone else on the flight didn’t agree with. the book in question was “Jihad: The Rise Of Militant Islam In Central Asia“, and apparently it ruffled someone’s feathers to the point where they contacted the australian government. [ from : sploid ] you just have to love rollins’s reply to a letter he recieved from the australian government.
it’s sad to see that someone can annoymously complain and report you because they are uncomfortable about a book that you’re reading. the letter from the lady in the australian government seems to be more of a ‘hey i thought you’d find this interesting’ rather than a ‘this is going down on your permanent record’ type letter, but i can understand why rollins reacted the way he did.
this kinda makes me want to rethink my ‘ifly’ project. i wanted to convert a skydiving rig into a laptop bag, and then carry it aboard commercial airliners when i travelled. an old roommate had a story about a guy that really had a cow because he carried his skydiving rig onto the airplane rather than checking it. the guy had originally asked him on the gangway if there was something that he knew that no one else knew because he was carrying a rig with him. my old roommate laughed it off and thought nothing of it till later on when the guy started flagging down anyone that would listen. he eventually had to move it a few overhead compartments away because the guy was screaming to the stewardess that he had a skydiving rig.
the only reason i never carried through with the project is the fact that the rig’s harness was entirely way too heavy just for a fun prank.
